The Nazarbayev Intellectual School of Chemical and Biological Direction in Atyrau was opened on September 11, 2013 at the initiative of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan - Nursultan Nazarbayev. The school is designed for 720 students routine full-time educations. There are 132 beds in school dormitories.
Since the opening of the school, from 2013 to 2014, the post of first head was held by Akimova Tavila Adietovna.
From 2014 to 2020, the principal of the school is Aitpukeshev Aidarbek Tulepovich.
From January 2020 to august 2022 principal of the Atyrau Nazarbayev Intellectual School is Akhmadieva Kuralay Tleuberdievna.
From august 2022 and now principal of the NIS Atyrau Eraly Bizhanov.
The Intellectual School has a policy of trilingual learning and equality in education. The school supports values such as: respect for oneself and others, cooperation and partnership, the formation of communication skills with the assistance of external relations, a responsible civic position, academic integrity, lifelong learning and transparency policies.
In 2017, the school received international accreditation from the Council of International Schools (CIS) in the Netherlands.
